Slim City

Slime City, not too goddamn bad I must say. The story starts out with a couple looking for an apartment, stumbling upon a building with a slimy history. Alex the main dude rents the place, moves in with the help of his tubby, oversexed buddy. Both get a glimpse of the trashy neighbor babe (who also is playing a dual role as Alex’s girlfriend) dressed in Hot Topic gothwhore gear (which would sell like hot cakes nowadays). Alex gets an immediate chubby for the mysterious girl, mainly because his virgin girlfriend won’t put out...

With his Sauvé ways Alex ends up nailing the Goth chick on her floor. The sex scene is good but way too fast and no skin to be seen (not even a tit shoot). Next up Alex befriends a Nick Cave look alike neighbor who invites him to dinner. At dinner they both eat up some tasty green slime, which turns Alex into an oozing green mess. The only way to stop the spillage is to kill, kill, kill (mainly whores and bums, big shout out to mayor Giuliani) and turn them into slime to be eaten later.

Now this is where it starts to get spicy and bloody. The special effects are pretty good despite the budget and the time it was made (80’s). I have to admit I caught myself yelling out with glee a few times during some of the killin' scenes. There were a few notable slice and dices, and a fantastic head bashing with a pipe that gets a big thumbs up.

Alex investigates further into the mess to find out Zachary (some voodoo hoodoo dude) made the first slime sandwich and fed it to his neighbors, turning them into slime freak zombies, who end up committing suicide to stop the madness. All this somehow lands Zachary a book deal and he writes several volumes on skin-to-slime, who knew? The girlfriend starts snooping around more and more which leads her to first, come up out of her panties for old Alex (finally), and then to a masterfully done final battle where she cuts off Alex’s body parts, spills his guts all over the floor (sweet) and ending with a crescendo of choppin' up his brains with a butcher knife. F*ckin' bravo Gregory nicely done.

I give this film 3 and a half forty ounces of Old English out of 5. The extras on the DVD also include Naked Fear, a later film done by the same dudes. I did not indulge but taking account Slime City’s well done horror styling I bet it’s not bad. Also a making of documentary, and a Shock-o-Rama documentary. If you liked Evil Dead or Toxic Avenger you will also enjoy this flick.
