I love my comedies. The problem is that every time a good one comes out, out comes its followers that are not as good. Remember CADDYSHACK? Man is that a classic. Hey look here. There is a movie called GOLF BALLS! Umm, not as good. Remember CANNONBALL RUN? Classic! Well, technically this came out after GUMBALL RALLY, but that movie sucked. Well, we get SPEED ZONE after CANNONBALL RUN. Stop it already.

Where am I going with all of this, who knows? Maybe I am trying to impress all you lady Bums out there with my ridiculous knowledge of horrendous, pointless movies that you would never watch. Hot huh? Or maybe this leads me to watching WHITE COATS. Now, I love the show SCRUBS. I watch it every week. I also loved the movie WAITING. Those cooky servers and their misadventures. Now, I can lump WHITE COATS with both of these. We get a film about interns at a hospital acting goofy and trying to become doctors. Now this sells itself as a sex injected, raunchy comedy. Wrong! It is more like a Disney channel romp. Not very raunchy for my tastes. Not even a scene involving a donkey. Come on!!

Some interns begin work at the worst hospital around ran by Dr. Cyril Kipp (Dan Aykroyd). They struggle while dealing with their overbearing teachers Dr. Omar Olson (Dave Thomas), and Dr. Denton Whiteside (Dave Foley). What does this group do to blow off steam or perfect their career? Well, nothing really. This is more like a bunch of situation gags, sight gags, and well gags in general throw into a small, very small plot (if you even want to try and say it had one). This had a small glimpse of being like the great awful sex comedies from the 80s, where all everyone wants to do is get laid, but there was no bad guy, no controversy for them to overcome, or really anything else for that matter. Again there were moments of story progression that lead to nothing. Let’s go down the list of the interns;

The nerd Mike (Peter Oldring) who has parents that work as doctors, and is told by the main doctor that he will never become one. Mike brought the funniest moments, well moment, to the movie with a colostomy bag. His delivery on the situation was priceless.

The sex starved Dale (Pat Kelly) who only became a doctor to meet women. He starts the movie as trying to sleep with every women in the hospital then becomes quite the whipped lame ass as the movie progresses.

The token African American intern Marlon (Viv Leacock) that is smarter than majority involved, and says that he learned it all from the streets.

I could go on, but why really. I need to wrap this up. There is the bookworm Asian intern, the uptight blond intern, and the oversexed whore intern. Now, I am all for having the stereotyped characters. Sometimes that is easy. You know the sex starved intern will probably get into some crazy situations while trying to hit on every woman around and the bookworm will let loose in a hilarious fashion sometime throughout, but in this film they started then stopped. The clichés were there, and the movie could have been better if they rolled with it, but instead everything seemed held back. Everything seemed forced, so the comedy barely made me smile.

Looking at the roster of comedy icons that starred in the movie along the interns had me thinking highly of the film, but watching this made me cringe in pain. They were the worst of the bunch. Now the movie is not horrible by any means, but it was bland, and the characters had no appeal. There needs to be an arch that takes place, or something to overcome, but everything here felt half assed. After the movie was over I didn’t know how I felt about it.

Was it a bad movie? Well, not exactly. Did it have some glimpses of humorous moments? Actually it did and at times the characters came off as bland yet slightly enjoyable. Was it a laugh out loud, raunchy comedy? Not really, and I guess that is what is important here. If you have a 14 year old kid that has gotten back from bible camp, and wants to watch an “adult” comedy then I go with this one. If you on the other hand are an adult looking for a crazy comedy, then skip this. You’ll end up being quite disappointed.
