I wouldn't say that I am a very political person. Sure I have my views on "the issues", however I don't tend to trust any politicians or want to listen to anyone tell me their views. I would say that I lean towards the left on issues and also lean towards the right on others. I'm on the fence baby!! Honestly, all I care about are my views and everyone else's never really concerned me. Now going into the newest MASTERS OF HORROR to land on my desk I knew that it had a political view to tell. I tend to hate movies that are too preachy on a subject or come off as propaganda. I don't care if it is a view to the left or right.

What's that hairy Jabba looking guys name again? Oh yeah, Michael Moore. Not a fan.

Anyways, I went into this film with some reserve. Would this be a preachy anti-current government movie? Is it anti-Bush? Would all conservatives hate the movie, and would annoying ass clowns like Jerry Fallwell and Al Franken use it as some platform for discussion on the fall of humanity? Nah, lighten up people. What we get is a movie, while having some annoying left-wing preachy moments, came off as a pretty funny satire on politics.

David Murch (Jon Tenney) is the go to guy when it comes to politics. He is working to get another four more years out of the current president. While on the Marty Clark show, an upset women comes on the airwaves talking about her recently passed son, who died in war. David doing his best spin states that he wishes all would come back, because if they did they would all state how proud they were to die for their country. What David soon finds out is that his wish comes true and the soldiers do not quite feel the way he predicted.

What could they want?!? Brains? No, they want to voice their opinion in a vote. Once they vote they die. Teaming up with Ann Coulter...um, I mean Jane Cleaver (Thea Gill) and Kurt Rand (Robert Picardo) they set the spin machine in motion to not let this little hiccup affect the presidential race.

This movie is well acted and has great moments of being tongue in cheek. The conservatives, and really all the political individuals, are shown as the most stereotypical heartless individuals imaginable. These are the type that instead of kissing a child would rather boil it alive. Even when David starts to feel some remorse on the whole situation, he has his mentor Kurt Rand to take things to the extreme. Kidnapping a soldiers mother? Not a problem for these republicans.

There is no denying where the jabs are meant to be going to. Is this Anti-Bush? Yeah, of course. Did that get annoying? Yes it did. Like I said I hate when things get preachy, and frankly there were some scenes and moments that while making my Democratic fiancé jump in glee and delight, forced me to lock her in the basement for a political time out. (We don't talk politics in my home.) The last scene in particular made me just cringe.

While this is still an entertaining romp, this is light on horror. There are zombies in this film right? I kept asking myself this, because I was surprised not to see any carnage. Granted the story was more highbrow and black humor than, say your normal grue fest, but I would like to see some horror in my MASTERS OF HORROR.

Joe Dante does a great job directing from Dale Baily's short "Death and Suffrage", and came off quite entertaining at times, however I cannot see diehard Republicans enjoying this. If you are like me and not into politics THAT much then give this a view, but this is more for the left-wing liberal bunch. Liberals that like their horror without the horror. Who knows though, maybe the current administration is horror enough for them. Not for me though. While not a great MASTERS OF HORROR entry, I will say that this was still an entertaining watch and deserving of a rent.
