If you are reading this review, then the first 5 episodes of Tactics have piqued your interest enough to see if what happens next is worth watching. It depends on what kind of anime you enjoy watching. Volume 2 is even more episodic than the first one. No new characters are added, and no plot arches across the episodes. The editor, Reiko, is brought back, but Kantaro’s writing life takes a back seat to the demon hunting and could almost be dropped. The editor is there more for comic relief (which there is plenty of) than to really move the story forward. Yoko, the kitsune, gets her own story about wanting independence. In the next episode, her success in surviving on her own is forgotten. Also her shape-shifting is ignored except for comical means. The only subplot which really continues on is Suzu’s infatuation with Haruka. Suzu is always trying to get Haruka’s attention, but her attempts always comically fail. She is very cute and innocent, but doesn’t do much else.

The stories are interesting, as they delve into Japanese folklore. Annoying parts like the musically-backed chant are used much less, and the stories themselves are concentrated on. The art and animation are nice, but definitely not groundbreaking or especially interesting. The whole thing is very amusing: like a Saturday morning cartoon, which is basically what it is. If you want an anime that digs deep into demon folklore and life, then this is not for you. If you enjoy carefree, simple stories with cute characters and no movement forward, then you will like Tactics. The last episode ends on a cliff-hanger which is just good enough to want to get the next volume. I would recommend this to my little sister. I give Tactics volume two 3 ˝ cans.
