All I saw was the back cover saying politics and espionage and I rolled my blue eyes royally. Politics are a bore to me but that's probably because I am not well educated in that aspect of life. I don't have any faith in some shady ass candidate trying to convince me of all the great things that they'll never enforce once they are in office, but thank God this film wasn't like that.

Parker Posey plays Fay Grim, a single mom whose husband Henry was some sort of fugitive who she hasn't seen in seven long years. Her son keeps getting in trouble at school for things like bringing in porn and getting caught in the school's hallway closet playing doctor with two girls. Simon, Fay's brother, is in prison so she makes a deal with the government to get him out so he can help her out.

Suddenly her missing husband's journals are being sought after by several different characters in here. It was fun watching them try to decipher the mysterious clues to figure out what exactly is going on. This comical tale has plenty of twists and offbeat humor to keep you interested in whether or not Fay would succeed in her mission. Her character was so adorable with a natural knack to snoop.

Fay Grim was a con game gone wrong. Jeff Goldblum plays a quirky role as usual and succeeds in his part with flying colors. Hal Hartley has a winner on his hands with this one, I think he could also go on to make a sequel that actually doesn't suck. I think Fay has a few more adventures in her and I just hope to hell that Hartley realizes this and goes forth to let her explore her boundaries.
