BumsCorner: You look familiar…where have I seen you before?
Countess Samela: Well, I doubt you have seen me, but you might have heard me on Freak Forum South, a podcast show on MySpace (check it out at http://www.myspace.com/freakforumsouth). I ran sound on a movie called “Cannibal Sisters” and my band Dick Y Jane (performed the title song for “Marty Jenkins and the Vampire Bitches”.
BumsCorner: What’s your favorite Christmas movie?
Countess Samela: Okay, here’s where I get all nostalgic. I absolutely love “Miracle on 34th Street”. And not the remake shit, the old, old, old one. And not the colorized crap version either. Gimmie the B&W.
BumsCorner: Do you cook around the holidays, or let other people do the work?
Countess Samela: Well, I think the pizza delivery place is open. But seriously, yes, I do cook. And every year I am nominated for at the very least the Thanksgiving feast. Even when there are only 5 of us I am still required to make a 25 pound turkey. Everyone leaves with their own little doggie bag.
BumsCorner: Any particular tunes get you in the Christmas spirit?
Countess Samela: Hmmm… I don’t know that there is one in particular. Usually any get me in the spirit and of course I have to listen when I trim the tree, but I will say that James Brown’s “Soulful Christmas” is the shit.
BumsCorner: Do you shop through the year, or last minute rush?
Countess Samela: I can’t say that in the spring I am buying some great gift for the holidays, but I HATE the mall during the holidays. So the quicker I can get done, the better. | |  | |
BumsCorner: We’re having drinks with Santa later, any one particular gift we should tell him you want?
Countess Samela: If you listen to the show, I am sure you can either guess a few or come up with a good one yourself (no pun intended). ;)
BumsCorner: Snow: makes the spirit bright, or cold white death?
Countess Samela: Only because I no longer live in the north can I say that it makes the spirit bright. Blinding even when you are driving. But down here we don’t get a lot, sometimes none, so I have to say I love it. Although when you don’t get a lot, people tend to go crazy and stock up for 3-4 weeks like they’re really gonna be stuck that long. And why is it people get bread and milk??? I mean, if I were gonna be stuck home, I would want steak, and shrimp, and the good shit, not some freakin’ bread and milk.
BumsCorner: Working on any cool projects you can tell us about?
Countess Samela: Absolutely not! Don’t you listen to the show??? I’m not cool, just a geek.
BumsCorner: How do you REALLY feel about carolers?
Countess Samela: Having been one in the past, well… they’re geeky. And having had them come by in recent years, I still believe that. I mean, sure spread some cheer, but all you’re doing by coming to my house on some Friday or Saturday night is annoying me. And damn if I’m giving you any of my cookies or eggnog.
BumsCorner: I’ve got some mistletoe I was going to sneak above the door before you left, should I even bother, or will you pretend you don’t see it and scurry out of here like the last girl?
Countess Samela: Hell no, you got mistletoe, LET’S GO!!!
BumsCorner: Have you been naughty or nice this year?
Countess Samela: Depends on who you ask. Let’s see… a little bit of both.
BumsCorner: What’s the all-time greatest TV Christmas special?
Countess Samela: Well, I think there was some crazy Barry Manilow Christmas special on when I was a little tyke and yeah I seem to recall liking it, but every year I have to watch Rudolf. On TV!!!! Sure I own the DVD, but it’s not the same.
BumsCorner: Screw all the Whos in Whoville…any final words for all the Bums in Bums Corner?
Countess Samela: If you ain’t got a stocking stick a dirty sock above the fireplace and have a HAPPY HOLIDAY!!!! |
